Muar (Muo) is one of the oldest cities in Johor which is located in Kuala Sungai Muar borders with Malacca. Recently, Muar just named as the Royal City of the Sultan of Johor. Population consists of various ethnic groups and descendants of which is Javanese. Through Sultan Ismail Bridge, built long ago headed to Muar town, you seem to be going back to colonial times. All that can be seen from the classical buildings that dominate the city of Muar. Muar not only have attractive buildings but there are foods that there are no less impressive. Below are some of the foods that popular in Muar.

1. Mee Bandung Muar

This dish is a favorite among Muarian and tourists. Almost every part of eateries available in Muar prepare this dish. The sweet broth made ​​from beef stock and sweet potatoes, makes Mee Bandung Muar taste more delicious. No wonder there are a some stalls selling the Mee Bandung pastes to the tourists.

2. Kopi 434

Muar famous coffee is “Kopi 434”. Coffee beans from different types of Arabica, Robusta and Liberica for great coffee in Muar. Smell the coffee aroma and delicious taste of “Kopi 434” made as an icon of tourism in Muar.  Furthermore “Kopi 434” cannot be found in other places makes this coffee fans willing to Muar  to enjoy this coffee. Muar community is certainly true coffee lovers even teh tarik become its competitors.

3. Asam Pedas

Which one more delicious? Asam pedas Muar or Malacca? You should try both. Difficult to judge which one is more delicious but each dish has its own uniquely. If in Muar, average Muar community enjoy Asam pedas around 10 am until 12 noon. Don’t be surprised if you’re in Muar and food like this available in the morning. Among the best locations to enjoy this Asam pedas is in Parit Jawa and Jalan Joned Muar .

4. Pau Muar

Pau or steamed bun is a bun that is steamed and have fillings such as red bean, kaya, sweet coconut, curry beef and chicken curry. What so special about Pau Muar is in pau thats in curry chicken and beef curry fillings. Not only contain meat curry and chicken curry is also included with a quail eggs to be added to this delicious Pau Muar.

5. Mee Siput

Snack foods are synonymous in Muar community. It is easily found in Johor area especially Muar . Shape resembles yee mee and when it fried it will puff and very crisp when eaten. Mee siput is usually eaten with sambal. To make it easier to enjoy, there’s a Mee siput that pack in a small package with sambal.

6. Satay

Uniquely  of a community in Muar is, they take their satay for breakfast. Each morning we can inhaled to the aroma of cooked satay especially around Muar town. Different types of satay that can be found and enjoyed that will be served with a delicious “kuah kacang”, onion, cucumber and “nasi impit”.
